Tidore Sultanate is the Islamic empire centered in the region Tidore City, North Maluku, Indonesia now. In its heyday ( about the 16 th century until the 18 th century ), the Kingdom was ruled most of southern Halmahera, Buru, Ambon, and many of the Islands off the coast of western Papua.
In 1521, Sultan Mansur from Tidore accept Spain as an ally to counterbalance the power of the Sultanate of Ternate rival allied with the Portuguese. After the withdrawal of Spain from the area in 1663 because of protests from the Portugues as a violation of the Treaty of Tordesillas in 1494, became one Tidore most independent kingdom in the Maluku region. Especially under the leadership of Sultan Saifuddin ( reigned from 1657 to 1689 ), managed to resist mastery Tidore VOC against its territory and continues to be an independent region until the late 18tn century.
